Concept Cartoons™ and Family Learning

Concept Cartoons™ are widely used for promoting family learning. Used in science centres, libraries, waiting rooms, cafeterias, football club programmes, transport systems and school science clubs.

Features which make them accessible for learning in family groups include:

  • the visual nature of the Concept Cartoons™
  • the everyday situations portrayed
  • the dialogue between the characters

A set of books is available to support learning in young children and their families.

  • Bungee Jumpers and Other Science Questions
  • The Seesaw and Other Science Questions
  • The Snowman's Coat and Other Science Questions
  • Upside Down Seeds and Other Science Questions

are available from Millgate House Education.

Concept Cartoons™ are used as the basis for stories which parents and carers can share with young children. Each story starts with an interesting problem that leads into a practical activity that young children can do at home with suitable support. By carrying out the activity they find out the answer to the problem and can complete the story. The books promote thinking, questioning, predicting, enquiring and using evidence. They provide a valuable means of linking science and literacy.

"Science is everywhere and science is for everyone are two important messages made in a striking and colourful way in this series of books. These high quality materials present two of the most important processes of science - raising questions and finding answers - in a very appealing manner."
(Catherine Wilson, Education Manager at the Institute of Physics)
